Angus Cycling Club - Summer Challenge Rides

Postby merval on 2009-06-17 Wed 15:53

I've just registered today after a long delay!
Looking at the last "Cycletalk" with dates and destinations for the summer I would have to say that as usual I am somewhat daunted by the length of the rides. I seem to remember there has been previous discussion about having more available for the cyclists who are not able to cycle 100K without needing a day off work to recover! What has happened to that plan?
I had a lovely cycle from Crieff to Letham (Angus) last Friday - total 107K. I can do that distance but I think a lot more slowly than I could with you folk!

Val,
I've only just seen your post. I sent the information to Cycletalk as a result of a plea for material.

These events were run under Audax UK rules. Audax UK is "The Long-Distance Cyclists' Association". The distances ranged form a hard 300k to a very gently 100k. There was no CTC involvement, or indeed local interest, whatsoever in the weekend apart from one Angus CC member who was not a regular audax rider, who rode both the 160k and the 100k.

There was a 100k event as part of the weekend: the time limit was 8h 25m for just over 60 miles, an overall average speed of little over 7mph. If you find that too daunting, I understand that there are local CTC group rides as well that, I am told, are run at a much lower speed.

I'm sorry the rides I organised didn't appeal to you.
